Amber’s Goodreads review of The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury (audio book)

The Illustrated ManThe Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I never really realized before how much Bradbury writes can be classified as horror sci-fi. There were a lot of unhappy endings in this but a few hopeful ones too, at least. As always, he’s very imaginative and his language is beautiful. Also, as usual, his seeming obsessions come to the fore: invasions (Earth to Mars or vice versa), atomic war, leprosy?, and the censorship and burning of literature. The frame story of the Illustrated Man was an interesting one.

As I mentioned before, the audio book of this (by Blackstone Audio) has a MUCH better reader, and the only downer was incidental: it was a library copy that somehow got so smudged and scratched that some disks skipped like crazy to the point they stopped playing in my car CD player. :P
